Workflow Editor Overview

The Workflow Editor is where you define when, where, and how your campaign is displayed. It lets you create automation rules using triggers, conditions, actions, and multiple campaign steps to deliver personalized experiences based on visitor behavior.

For a general introduction to campaigns, see Campaigns Overview.

Open the Workflow Editor

  1. Open the campaign you want to edit.
  2. Navigate to the Workflow section.
  3. Click Open Workflow Editor.

The Workflow Editor opens with a visual canvas where you can build your campaign flow.

The Workflow Editor consists of several key areas:

1. Trigger

Every workflow starts with a Trigger.

A trigger determines when the workflow begins. For example:

  • Page load – Starts the workflow after a visitor loads a page.
  • Other triggers may be available depending on your configuration.

In the example above, the workflow starts 8 seconds after the page loads.

For more information about configuring workflow triggers, see Triggers.

2. Conditions

Conditions determine which visitors should continue through the workflow based on their characteristics and behavior.

Condition categories include:

  • Visitor Behavior
  • Traffic Source
  • Shopping Interest
  • Cart
  • Datalake
  • Campaign History
  • Session
  • Visitor Profile

Select the condition categories relevant to your workflow, then configure the specific criteria within each category. If a visitor meets the configured conditions, they can proceed to the next workflow step or follow the appropriate branch.

For a detailed explanation of conditions and their relationship with actions, see Conditions and Actions.

3. Steps

A Step represents one stage of your campaign.

Each step can contain:

  • A popup
  • A sticker
  • Interactive components
  • Events
  • Actions

Workflows can include multiple connected steps to create multi-stage customer journeys.

For guidance on creating multi-step experiences, see Building Workflows.

4. Popup & Sticker Components

The right panel displays all interactive elements available within the selected step.

Examples include:

  • Coupon code copied
  • Close icon clicked
  • Button clicked
  • Text clicked
  • Form submitted
  • Custom component interactions

These events can trigger actions such as:

  • Navigate to another step
  • Show a sticker
  • Hide the popup
  • Log an event
  • Finish the campaign

For more information about designing and configuring interactive elements, see Working with Components.

5. Canvas

The center canvas provides a visual representation of your workflow.

You can:

  • Connect workflow blocks
  • Create branches
  • Rearrange steps
  • Build complex customer journeys using drag-and-drop

The canvas works together with triggers, conditions, and actions to create complete automated customer journeys. See Building Workflows for more information.

6. Add Step

Click Add step in the top-right corner to create additional workflow steps.

Multiple steps allow you to build experiences such as:

  • Multi-step popups
  • Progressive offers
  • Follow-up messages
  • Personalized customer journeys

You can combine these steps with different conditions and actions to create targeted experiences.

For a practical example, see Build Multi-Step Customer Journeys.

7. Save and Publish

After making changes:

  1. Click Save.
  2. Select Save and publish to make the updated workflow live.

Before publishing, review your workflow and test the configured triggers, conditions, and actions.

For a general campaign setup process, see Quick Start Guide.

Typical Workflow

A simple workflow usually follows this sequence:

Page Load
      ↓
Trigger
      ↓
Condition
      ↓
Step 1 (Popup)
      ↓
Visitor Interaction
      ↓
Action
      ↓
Next Step or End Campaign

Each part of the workflow serves a specific purpose: triggers start the workflow, conditions determine who continues, and actions define what happens next.

Best Practices

  • Start with a clear trigger before adding conditions.
  • Keep workflows simple whenever possible.
  • Use conditions to target the right audience.
  • Use multiple steps when a campaign requires a progressive or multi-stage experience.
  • Test every workflow before publishing.
  • Save your changes frequently and publish only after verifying the workflow behaves as expected.
  • Use Campaign Details to review the campaign configuration before making it live.
