Using Meta Fields in Campaigns

Using Meta Fields in Campaigns

Meta fields can be used in campaigns to store and track custom visitor information. This allows you to personalize visitor experiences and build more targeted campaigns based on visitor behavior or attributes.

Before using meta fields in campaigns, make sure you have created the fields you need. See Meta Fields Overview and Create Meta Fields for more information.

Available Meta Fields

Create Meta Field

Before using a meta field in a campaign, make sure it has been created in → Meta Fields.

Each meta field includes:

  • Label – The name displayed in the interface.
  • Key – The unique identifier used internally.
  • Description – Explains what information the field stores.
  • Usage – Shows how many times the field is currently being used.

For example, a workspace may contain fields such as:

  • coupon acquired – Tracks visitors who received a discount coupon for their first order.
  • interestedInPromotions – Tracks visitors who have shown interest in promotions.

Learn more about managing these fields in Meta Fields Overview.

Use Meta Fields in a Campaign

Meta fields can be used with campaign workflows to store visitor information based on interactions or conditions.

To configure how campaign behavior responds to visitor interactions, use the Workflow Editor.

Common use cases include:

  • Recording that a visitor subscribed to a newsletter.
  • Tracking interest in a product or promotion.
  • Marking visitors who claimed a coupon.
  • Storing custom campaign interactions.
  • Identifying visitors who completed a specific action.

For more information about configuring workflow behavior, see Building Workflows.

Update a Meta Field

A campaign workflow can update a meta field when a visitor performs a specific action.

For example:

  • A visitor clicks a promotional banner.
  • A visitor submits an email form.
  • A visitor claims a coupon.
  • A visitor completes a purchase.

You can use Conditions and Actions to determine when an action should occur and how the campaign should respond.

The campaign can then automatically update the corresponding meta field to record the visitor's interaction.

Use Rules with Meta Fields

Meta field Rules can automatically assign or update fields when visitors match specific conditions.

For example, you can create a rule that identifies visitors who have shown interest in promotions and assigns the appropriate meta field.

To learn how to create and manage these automated rules, see Manage Rules.
